Deb Lundin
Deb's "love affair with words" began at the age of 12, when she wrote her first poem. Some years later, in 1993, she designed her first website. "My first web site was a single, personal page, with an invitation to 'Sign My Guestbook'. I couldn't wait to log on every day after work and read what people wrote!" As Deb's knowledge of html and graphic design skills grew, so did her website. She began to market her poetry on her website, selling framed prints of the poems. Almost instantly, Deb recognized the internet's potential for business owners to make more money, faster than ever before. Deb also discovered a commonality between her poetry and any form of marketing promotion, including websites. "To be successful, they all have to trigger a positive emotional response for the reader/viewer very quickly." As far as websites go, some studies conducted in the past few years suggest that you have only a fraction of a second to make a good first impression on visitors, or they will instantly leave the site. The studies further state that: 1) the first impression is very difficult to change; and 2) if it "looks good", visitors actually judge the content to be more valuable, and they're more likely to linger. In contrast, non-visual type visitors quickly scan the landing page menu and content for the exact keywords they entered in the search engine. Overall, they couldn't care less about the fancy flash animation, the coordinated colors, or the nice layout... unless something about it immediately annoys them, such as too many graphic buttons or images, background music (especially if they can't turn it off), or neon flashing "Click Here!" buttons. Incidentally, Deb says these three things actually annoy both visual and non-visual type visitors. She adds, "The BAM-Balanced Attack Marketing strategy not only applies to a calculated mix of different types of marketing mediums, but it also applies to web design. The key to a successful website design is a careful "balance" of information and graphic elements that appeal to both groups." Deb’s passion for creating unique web designs to help other business owners make the most of this powerful marketing medium has been the mainstay in her life for the past 17 years. She currently owns a successful web design company with her husband, Harp, who is also a programmer and web developer. |
